I agree with another post that if they are close to you in their crate, that will feel safer. Also, I've heard that same thing another post said about holding it an hour for every month or so. Since your pup is four months old, he should be able to hold it four hours. If it were me, I would let him whine a little if he is waking you up more often than every four hours. It will probably take around three days for him to get it if you can stand it. HTH!
