Chewy was fixed at 6 months.. I know he had a few accidents for a few days after but went back to normal. He was pretty well potty trained by then. I think I would wait till 6 months if I were you.
If you want to let him on the couch with you put his harness on with his leash... Put some thick blankets down that you can wash if there is an accident. (When chewy was very young, I wold put a pee pad down, and a towel or light blanket over it to bring him on my bed. That way you can cuddle and if there is a problem it's an easy fix. Just make sure you keep him on the pad, or the blanket. It works fine, and you get to have fun with your pup. (Take him out often that's all...)
