  AKC only asks for DNA tests on frequently used sires or if there is a question on the parentage of the puppies. This is a great tool and is not expensive, about $40.00. So it is not necessary to have this done on your pet puppy. I believe this is one of the reasons there are soooooo many "breeders" that have gone to the "alternative" registries as these "breeders" dont want or wont keep good breeding records that AKC requires.JMO
