Umm... I do not wish to be impolite, but crate training is a very effective method of potty training and dogs are naturally den creatures so they don't mind. They make it their home. It isn't a cage, it's a safe, warm place where they can have peace and quiet. I am interested how you trained your dog if you did not use this method. I am a working pet owner so I feel much safer knowing that when I can't be there to take care of them they are safely in their crates, and not chewing on wires, or anything else that could hurt them. For one last time, crating is NOT cruel.
