I have been having the same problem with my 4 mo. old, he has had diarrhea for a week now, we are going to the doctor tomorrow, but he has been pooping in his crate also, i get up at three to let him out and there is at least two diarrhea's in there already, i know its not easy, they are alot of work. About the traveling i would think he is happier being with you, i know my guy cries whenever i walk away from the kitchen (he is confined there) so i would think he is delighted being in the car as long as your with him.
