Yes, they can easily eat the ground up food. They just lick it up. I grind it very fine at first and as they get older I don't grind it quite as fine. When mine are 6 weeks I start adding a little canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food to the ground food to make it a little moist and I put that out twice a day but I always leave a bowl of the dry food out. It would be a good idea to let the mom with her pups throughout the day because that is an important part of socialization.
