I use a harness for Ellie's leash.
Her tags get attached to the harness.
I would let her wear a collar for decoration with her tags on it but they attach to the harness just fine, so there is no need.
The harness comes off as soon as we come in. She wears nothing inside. I would let her wear a harness or collar inside as long as she is supervised but it is just easier to take them off because I can't watch her every second. Harnesses and collars should be taken off with no exceptions when your pup can't be supervised in my opinion.
