Try crating the dogs at bedtime. Put a towel or sheet over the crate and say "lights out". The crate may give him a little more of a safe feeling in his new place.
We did this from the beginning so we have no problem whenever we go on trips or stay at hotels. Although it was tempting, we did not allow our pup to sleep on the bed.
