Put a pad in his crate, then after a couple of days completly take away his crate and leave the pad where the crate is. When Bella was a puppy her crate was big enough for her to sleep, and a place for her to potty. Well she ended up thinking the crate was her potty! So finally we removed the crate completly and only put a pad in it's place. Now she still goes to that exact same spot everytime on the pad, well, even if theres no pad there she still goes to that spot!!!
