Unhappy Help-need advice

Have been putting off asking this question for a while.......As most of you know, my Gracie is 9 months old now and we also have a very old 3-legged soul mixed terrier named Cody. Cody is not long for this world . He has many medical problems including genetic spondylosis which has gotten worse over past winter...he is on daily meds for this and occasionally the condition worsens to spondylitis(infection in the spine). During these times, his meds increase to antibiotics, narcotics, very powerful anti-inflamatories, stomach protection meds and occasionally steroids. Being that he only has 1 back leg , we have to carry him outside to eliminate during these crisis times. They are becoming more frequent.....the vet says all we can do is offer him comfort until he TELLS us enough .

We have accepted this,,,,,,,but Gracie adores him, and every time he as much as sneezes, she's all over him, with kisses and attention..........I don't know what she will do when the time comes....I know we will have to let her be with him for a while after we put him down for her to understand he is gone, but I know she will GRIEVE deeply for him.

I am rejoining the workforce soon, I put my career on hold for several years to take care of terminally ill family members........so she won't have me during the day either. The cats are not ideal company for her.........any suggestions???????????

I appreciate all imput on this delicate matter, and thanks
