Granted this is overdue...oops!
My adorable Miss Bella did make a full recovery from her situation back in September and was back to normal within a week...full of vim & vigour
Fast forward now to February...and I just found out what was the probable cause of her ailment after a discussion with a neighbor.
Just a little background...our neighborhood has been fighting a losing battle with "rats" which have been making homes in our attics...yuck! I recently had to call a pest control company out to help us when an odor was coming from a bathroom wall from a dead rat! Being a considerate neighbor, I spoke personally to my neighbors to inform them of my plans with the rat bait stations, etc especially in regards to their animals.
After speaking with the husband and wife next door to me, I learned that they've also been battling the infestation as well. Well, during the conversation...his wife slipped out that her husband would place the rat poison "pellets" on the top of our adjoining fence for the rats to eat while they ran across it!?!?!?!
It's funny how it came up in the conversation because, I mentioned how I hadn't seen their dog much anymore and he said he had to keep her on the other side of their yard in a dog run to keep her from catching rats due to the health risk to her.
Unfortunately, neither of them ever thought to inform me of this and wouldn't you know it...this is the fence that my darling Bella was used to running up to to give kisses to their dog every morning through a little knot hole in the wood...guess what else she must have got...yep, a rat poison pellet!
His wife, I think thought I might have implied that the stink in our wall could have come from the pellets they had been using but, she quickly reassured me that these particular pellets when ingested by the rats will not make them stink if they die in a wall in your house.
So, needless to say...I am amazed again at how hard it is to just call up your neighbor or even knock on their door when you're planning to use a pesticide that could impact pets in the area
In the end...I could have snapped and gone postal on them but, instead I decided to educate them on what can and probably did happen this past September to Bella and why it's not such a great idea to place poison where he did...geez!
