You should have no problem with your washing machines being unsanitary. If that were so, they wouldn't really be doing their job. That's my opinion, anyway. Washing machines run a lot of hot water, not to mention the detergent.

We're using the disposable pee-pads right now, but when I move into a house where I have my own washer and dryer, I'll probably switch over to washables. I would soak mine in water and a cleaning solution or something and then just throw them in the wash.
