We have a friend that has a huge rott (HUGE) that she has had forever, but he is MEAN! They have him in a cage with a cage (or pen)...it is a huge cement slab w/ a wrought iron cage and then another wrought iron fence around that....She said that has he has gotten older, he has gotten meaner (is that a word ) and she just can't bear the thought of putting him down! Well, if you can't even love on your dog or let him out w/o the worry of him attacking someone, why have him around??? --course, I have never been in that position (and won't ever be)...be really!
I agree. On the one hand, I'm don't really believe it's the breed and I don't think it's always bad owners but I think to have a powerful breed like a pit bull or rottie you definately have to be the one in charge and so often, that is not the case. But that being said, I would never have a dog that was a danger to someone else. As hard as it would be, I feel I would have to make the decision to put them down. Glad I have never been in that position and hope to never be.....
