What else can I do? I've had pee pads in Tucker's xpen from the beginning. He's always done a good job at using them. But lately he has decided he would rather hike his leg on the xpen than use the pads. If I put the pad partially under the xpen he will use the pad and he can still hike his leg while the pad catches his pee. However, this means that I have to clean the side of the xpen constantly. When I catch him hiking his leg on the xpen without a pad, I clap my hands, say no and then put him on the pad and say potty. If he pottys he gets a treat. Recently I have started blotting up any extra pee with a paper towel. While blotting I say bad potty firmly and then I put the paper towel on the pee pad and say good potty nicely. It's not directed to him. I'm just talking to the pad and papertowel and pee while he's watching me (sounds crazy huh) The baffeling part is that when we go outside, he never hikes and only squats. Is there anything else I should be doing? Should I abandon pee pads altogether and strictly go outside? BTW, he is only 5 months old. I'm assuming he just needs more patience and time. I would really like him to be pee pad trained, but take him out on occasion so he knows how to go outside as well. Mabe I'm confusing him? UGh, Please help. |
