I agree. If you want your money back I would not send a letter. Letters tend to not get responded back to. Then you are left wondering if they got the letter, what they thought of the letter, and then you have to end up calling them in the end anyway to see what they have to say. I would call if I were you, then the breeder can hear the tone of voice and maybe feel sorry for you. They can't hear your voice in a letter.
