Just found this on the Des Moines Register website:
The Iowa Department of Transportation closed U.S. Highway 34 this morning between Albia and Ottumwa. Officials said traffic is prohibited from the area near Wal-Mart in Ottumwa to the junction of U.S. 34 and Iowa 5 in Albia. Numerous traffic accidents in the area have hindered plowing operations.
"The closure is necessary to allow snowplows to bring the roadway to a passable condition," authorities said in a press release shortly before 10:30 a.m. today.
