Good question! In our house, Coby LOVES his kennel. Probably because he gets a treat every single time he enters his kennel. Coby is great at just going into his kennel when he sees us put our coats on.
But I do use the kennel as a "time out" but that's probably not the right term for how I use it. When Coby is getting a little rambunctious - getting carried away, wound up, behaving badly, etc., I send him to his kennel to "chill out". He still gets a treat for going in the kennel on command, so it's not really a punishment. It's just a time for him to calm down, wind down, relax.
I equate it to having a toddler that is becoming over-tired and starting to act up. You would know that the toddler needed a nap to un-wire. It's just placing them in their "quiet place". |
