I believe the litter is made of recycled paper or such. I tried it for a week but after I caught Jambo trying to consume it I said heck with that and use the pee pad inside the litter box as well. I use a large litter box as my baby likes to circle around before he does his #2 and this way he the poop stays in the box. I have two (one upstairs and downstairs) and he knows to use both.
