My father is 87 and started suffering from senile dementia about 6 months ago. The last 2 months he has been is a rapid decline and despite all our efforts he is going downhill fast. We are trying to get him into a good psych/geriatric unit today to get the poor thing some much needed help. Needless to say, my poor mom is starting to suffer as well from taking care of him, she's 67 but not in the best of health. He thinks he can't move his bowels and has been forcing himself to do so for the past few weeks and mom has been having to clean up his messes and make sure he stays clean. We are afraid he is going to hurt himself and he is just miserable, says he just wants to be 'normal' again.
Please keep them in your thoughts, we are very grateful to still have him with us but it's so sad, he thinks it's physical but the doctors say it is his mind. He's very healthy otherwise, still walks and exercises, eats right and takes good care of himself, but his mind is breaking down.
