Dr. Center is currently petitioning the AKC for funding to research the genes that cause liver shunt. Right now, there is no gene found to be linked with LS so all breeders can do is bile acid test and know that their lines are LS clear. Hopefully this research will find the gene that causes this problem so that breeders can more effectively screen their dogs before breeding.
