I had one lady tell me that her five month old yorkie ( no champion, just pet quality ) was $900 on the day I called her but would go up to $1200 the very next day because as they get older they become more expensive. This person also has teeny tiny teacup yorkies for sale $5000 and up. Is this normal pricing? Everyone else has pretty much covered this one. Caution to anyone dishonest or who advertises teacup...
I have read that yorkies should never be bred if they are under 5lbs but lots of the people I spoke with told me they breed their 2 - 2.5lb yorkies. I read that to do that would seriously endager and probably kill them. Just found it odd that people were bragging about it.
Is it normal for yorkies to be over 10 pounds and still be healthy? Again, pretty well covered. It's NOT within the standard.
Also when looking to see how the pup will turn out should I pay more attention to mom or dad ( who gets more of the genes passed down)? Really it has less to do with the parents, and more to do with the lines. Although the parents should be reasonably attractive and within the standard of course, since that would normally imply a better pedigree.
Do you keep your yorkies shaved in the summer if you aren't showing? Sometimes, depends on the dog. I do LOVE long hair, and mine that have silkier hair are kept long. However, I have a couple who have more of the cottony coat, and they pant like crazy when it's hot, so I do it for them, even though it kills me haha.
Thanks guys, just a couple questions I'd love your opinion on. | Hope this helps! |
