There is a Maltese breeder that I like that currently has the #1 dog in the nation, and her pet puppies are only between $1500 and $3000....her show dogs go for more, but not her pets. If it is not a dog that can be shown or bred, it should not be priced at $5000. Actually, I don't know of any well-known top show breeders that sell their pet puppies for more than $3000
