skin problems Hi Everyone,
This is my first post. My yorkie is 3 and is having a slight skin problem. She weighs about 4 1/2 pounds. Her coat is kind of thin and scraggily. I have used several different shampoos including coat handlers and bio groom. When I bought her at 12 weeks she was eating walmart puppy food. I changed her to science diet. I later read that it wasn't good for our babies. I then tried Royal Canin yorkie formula. About a year later I noticed that her hair on her back legs began falling out. It is not severe just some hair on the very back of her back legs. The rest of her coat is ok. Not thick and shinny, but ok. I remember that she had also gone to the groomers. I think it stresses her out to be groomed so I am doing it myself. I asked the vet what might have caused it. At the time I noticed that she had gotten tape worms. We medicated her and the vet said that the tape worms may have stressed her system and caused the hair to fall out. He also said yorkies are very sensitive and are prone to skin disorders. I have since tried a new food -- Canadae Lamb and Rice formula. She also has no parasites and hasn't been to the groomers in over 6 months. She likes the food but her hair is still thin and appears dry to me. On the advice of a groomer I bought Dream Coat to see if that would help thicken her coat. I think it has helped some maybe. She has been on the new food since last August. She seems healthy otherwise. She is not overly active and really never has been. She is more of a Mama's baby and enjoys just sitting with me. She just seems to lack a healthy lusterous coat. Does anyone have advice on this topic? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. |
