From Personal Experience of having a lost dog, I will never again have a dog without one. Sure it isn't a tracking device but Homeagain claims about 96% return rate on missing pets with the microchip. Losing a dog is heartbreaking enough, but at least if you take as many preventive measures as you can you will know you did your best.
