Xavier barked like crazy when we put him in his crate the second night we had him. After using the "coins in the can" trick, he only barks for a few seconds when he first goes in his crate or when he's ready to get up in the morning. (He's so darn cute that it never really bothers me!) So dogs can definitely be trained to NOT bark! He barks these cute little "woofs" when he's playing and gets really excited!
As for my Mamaw's toy poodle...she is the loudest dog I have EVER heard! But we love her regardless....lol
