I thought baking soda didn't sound right. She's not a fan of the toothbrush so I've been using Dental Pet Swabs. She doesn't mind those but they are not cutting it at all. I've tried different chew toys but she's really not interested in chewing. I will check out Petzlife. |
A vet told me to use baking soda on Ellie before. I'm not sure if it did any good. Ellie's new vet that she goes to a sort of a dental specialist now and she likes CET toothpaste. We use the vanilla-mint flavor. We also use OraVet once a week.
I have heard good things about Petzlife (I have some here and don't use it), but then it doesn't work for some. There is also the question of whether or not you want to give your dog grain alcohol and grape seed extract everyday (of course toothpaste ingredients are probably worse). Petzlife has no reported side effects though. It is worth a try but I like toothpaste.
I asked Mocha's age because at 18 months it is no longer a puppy teeth problem so much as a buildup problem and they probably should be professionally cleaned. I never had Ellie's teeth cleaned and she developed stage 3-4 periodontal disease. Her front teeth were falling out and she had to have nine pulled. So at the first sign of needing a cleaning, please consider it.
