It is sad It makes me really sad that LP is so common in our babies...breeders have got to do something to reduce this It may not be life-threatening (although surgery always has its risks) but it can cause a lot of pain for our babies and is an expensive, difficult surgery to put them through. I worry all the time that Lacy will need surgery one day. She has a grade 2 left and grade 3 right. Luckily her legs have never bothered her. My vet told me that she's seen a lot of small dogs do fine with a grade 3 as long as you keep their weight down. I just do not want to put Lacy through that surgery if her legs aren't bothering her...so I'm going to wait and see. The only downside to that is that the surgery is more difficult when they are older. So if she does end up needing surgery, I know it will be harder later in her life. It's a hard decision to make...I just don't want to put her through surgery if she's no in pain or bothered by it...but I would hate to have a more difficult surgery later.
