My daughter's maltese is 13. She is really doing ok but is going blind which crushed my daughter. She told the vet it is like watching her sister grow old and die. He told her that Jazzy still had a life to live and not to fret and just love her and that is what they are doing.
Just give your gal all the TLC and enjoy her ... she will always have love to give
