I realize she's doing it out of fear and insecurity, so I don't yell at her or punish her... she's been here only a few days but just when I think she's calming down, she bites someone else (in the family of course... I wouldn't take her out while she's still acting this way... scary for her and MAJOR liability for me!!) - -
Even though I know WHY she's behaving this way, I feel like I need to acknowledge and detour the unacceptable behavior before she becomes too "set in her ways" to mend them.
As you can see from the little video I just posted, she's a FABULOUSLY HAPPY girl when it's just me with them... but when everyone else comes home, she goes on automatic defense.
I have been using the "coins in a can" trick, but being so fearful already - the loud noise just frightens her more and she barks louder.... I tried, only once or twice, using a soft mist spray bottle... but she just shakes it off and keeps barking.
Does anyone have a link where I can learn more about these citronella collars?
Mia is just 2.5 lbs - can you use such a thing on very small dogs? |
Hi... How old is Mia? You mention that you haven't had her for a long time ....
Some of what your describing sounds much like what the ""Dog Whisperer" Ceasar Millan discusses on his show.. Geographic channel...
Not only does he have a few books but; tapes DvDs etc.
Mia has claimed you as your her own territory and displays the behavior as such... there is a site that he has and breif emails can be written ...
Right now I have a 5 yr old smaller full grown 2 1/2 lb yorkie in my lap right now named Mighty Maggie ... sometimes she acts like she is all that...and more (seems to be because at times she does realize wow right now I feel a bit smaller than every one else around here
She gets scared and shakes at times but doing better... {not low blood sugar either} Actually; alot write about the health of the tiney ones being problematic ..
We haven't had that with her at all actually
She was breed and born here .. then sold to a lady then I bought her back when she was 8 months old due to the lady had fear she or someone would step on her ...
Good decision as I have Maggies mommy Teeka Rose... luv those family reunions ..
.. Best to get a professionals opinion one that does postivie reinforcement..
Wish we had a Ceasar Millan ... that lived in Michigan..
On his show they are in California he does house calls .. there have been some difficult cases ... plus the owners need training to learn what to do ... keep me posted how it goes
