I have noticed there is a lot of variation in tail lengths on docked tails. One Yorkie I bought about 8 years ago had hardly any tail and I did not like that at all. When I first started docking tails I was told to cut where the brown meets the black on the underside of the tail. That was o.k. for a pet Yorkie but a little to short for show. Now I am docking the tails a little longer and when I sell a pup some people think it is not docked because they are use to seeing really short tails on Yorkies. I just explain to them that for show the tail needs to be a little long. I know some vets dock them way to short. I just think that because of the Yorkies long coat it just looks neater being docked.
