Breeder that I know of had an alpha female and some other breeding females around. She went out and came back and there had to have been a fight because one of the females were dead.
So it could be a problem of them being bitchy and pmsing...shoot they are little women, could be an alpha situation that turned nasty and the pack mentality got going and they both hurt the other dog.
If the dog that was hurt was rabies negative then her babies should be fine.
