Mary - You did what many people would not take the initiative to do! It is far easier to 'feel bad' for the pups and the conditions that they lived in than to act on it. Not only did you rescue Max, you rescued all of the others as well. Don't ever feel guilty because you got Max under these conditions...feel proud that you did something wonderful for all of them.
