My baby started in his X-pen at three months and was in it all day while I was at work. The first several days, he howled like a baby coyote when I left home and was frantic to get to me when I came home. BUT -- after a while I noticed he was perfectly quiet when I was leaving and when I came home, he was pretty calm when I took him out. He's been a dream in his pen ever since (he's two now). It takes time. I also found that leaving him a Kong full of his favorite treats helped smooth the morning transition. Your baby will be fine, he's just got to get used to it.
