I think the difference is:
When one says teacup, they are either a decieved individual who has paid extra money for what is essentially a "genetic defect" or a breeder who is trying to make money off of a "genetic defect".
When one says teapot, they are usually referring to their own yorkie who has a "genetic defect" and it is usually more of a joke, or endearment. No extra profit is being made in the later scenario.
Big difference.
