I find that human playpens work real well. I have a 7 month old who still stays in one when I'm not home. He's tiny but has room for bed, small food bowl and its lined with a washable pee pad. I highly reccomend them.

I also keep my litters in them too.

I did that when Britney was a puppy (probably until she was 9 months or so- then she learned to bounce out of it. ) and not only did it work well but it was really cute.
