I would pass on both, but if I had to choose I would get the twelve week old puppy.
The YTCA specifically states in it's rules that breeders shall not sell a puppy before twelve weeks old. I would not buy a purebred puppy from a breeder who violates the breed club's rules.
The socialization period is between 7-11 weeks. It is very important for the puppy to be with his mom and littermates during this time to learn important lessons that will effect his behavior as an adult. A breeder who lets a puppy go at only eight weeks is not knowledgable enough to be breeding IMO and I would not want a puppy from her.
Many puppies from the larger show kennels are not home raised, but they have kennel staff who play with and socialize the puppies regularly. I would prefer a puppy from a smaller show kennel for that reason. |
