beef and chicken are fine for most dogs. Lacy's never shown signs of any food allergies. However my older cat is allegic to everything. She's doing wonderfully on Nature's Variety raw rabbit though...she hasn't looked this good in a long time. Beef and chicken just seem to be the most common protein allergies in dogs and cats. But every dog is different - you may have one that is allergic to rabbit, duck, or venison..you never know until you try. For a dog with allergies, I always suggest a "wierd" protein source they haven't tried before just because there is less chance of them being allergic.

So far as to why feed raw - there are a ton of reasons. I highly recommend it for most dogs (except immunosuppressed dogs and dogs with certain medical issues like liver disease).
