I started with a male and by our second show we were taking BOB when he was only 10 months old. I really enjoyed learning with him. Then when it was time to compete for his Majors I sent him with a handler because I didn't want to hold him back he was ready to win and proving that when I was showing him and he was in full coat and had been trained by me so that also lessened the time he was out with a handler. He finished very quickly.
I would suggest you study pedigrees, that will help you also in knowing what breeder is producing the look you like.
There are many Show Breeders with webpages I would spend a lot of time cruising the internet and looking at webpages, pictures and pedigrees. Go to the shows and get to know the breeders, get the catalogs so you can see who the breeder is of the dogs you like.
Most often you will have to CO-Own with the breeder until you have finished the dog. But they do not normally cover any expenses on showing it just helps them in having a bit of control to see that the dog is indeed being shown. We have placed before with a Show Contract with no CO-Ownership and we have had a few people who have burnt us on this. So from now on we will have to CO-Own to ensure our dogs are indeed being shown and not just being purchased to be bred.

How exactly do you study a pedigree? Do I just google the name? Or is there a site that may help me by showing the information about the champions in a database?
