This is just my opinion, but I think the reason that sometimes these dogs have cravings for "unnatural" things sometimes is because they are not getting the increased amounts of vitamins and minerals that their bodies require if the owners do not know about the dog's liver condition and are feeding the dog regular food. Therefore, they may try to lick/eat rocks, grass, etc...

As far as the excessive eating goes, again, just my view on this, but I feel that this is because maybe their bodies aren't metabolizing food correctly and they may not be absorbing the nutrients the way they are supposed to.
Other times, they eat voraciously when they are not getting enough protein...Other times, the food is passing through their bodies too quickly...

There are many reasons for this, but just like everything else, symptoms vary from dog to dog...

But one of the most common symptoms is lack of appetite because of the toxin build-up in their bodies from too much protein and no support for the liver if the condition goes unnoticed.
