How old and how much the puppy weigh and how healthy a puppy is to begin with play a big part in Hypoglycemia. It usually will effects puppies newborn to a few weeks old, but can happen at any age if they go to long without food or get stressed out. Nutri cal is a great thing to have on hand just in case you do need at at some point. We went out and bought it just to have in case we did need it. When Jeter got sick last month, his vet had us give him some when he was sick with Coccidia, just to be on the safe side because he lost his appetite and ended up losing weight. He did not have any episodes, it was a precaution measure that was taken while he was sick.

Your breeder that you are getting your puppy from should touch on the subject when you get your puppy. You could ask her about it too. Mine had a care pack that had written information on Hypoglycemia and how to treat it if needed. She went over each page of information with me before we left with Jeter. Also if you know the vet you will be taking the puppy to before you get him/her then you could ask your vet your questions on your puppy's health concerns. I was so nerves while waiting for Jeter to get to come home and reading all the things that could go wrong with a toy breed, finding YT sure helped me learn a lot before he got home!
