The pet hospital gave my pup Benadryl a few months back.
Could you be bathing your pup too often? I was bathing Sass every week and she started getting flakes and itching. She was always scratching and I worried she had fleas or allergies, so I brought her to the vet. She thought I was bathing her too much and drying her skin out.
She doesn't have long hair, is an inside dog (even potties inside on pee-pads) and I go 2 - 3 weeks between baths now. I brush her daily and wash her little face and eyes daily too. I use baby wipes after she potties.
All the itching problems and flakes are gone now.
