I tried Bitter Apple Spray but it didn't work on out guys. What works for us is Habanero pepper sauce. I use a cotton ball and rub the surface with the stuff -- my kids take one sniff and stay away.
I keep one bottle on hand just for that purpose. If your couch is fabric I would be careful about rubbing the Habanero sauce on it 'cause the stuff is a putrid color of green.
