Yes it does look like tie dye and the material is flannel. On my website we have discriptions of the materials and patterns. The batman fabric is cotton so it should breathe just fine but I do understand that the black soaks up the suns heat. I'm not sure how well mesh would sew or hold up but I will look into it. I prefer natural fibers like cotton to synthetic because they do breathe. Hope this helps.
