That's wierd. Usually that stands for generations.
For instance - you breed a yorkie with a maltese. The puppies would be an F1 generation. Then say you breed two yorkie/maltese crosses (F1's) together to get an F2 generation. Then say you breed to F2 yorkie/malteses together and you'd get an F3 generation. (don't know why I'm using mixes other than it seemed easiest to use)
