JMO but I think you are being selfish to youir children to even consider NOT going. Not to mention your very generous mother and your siblings.
I understand that you love your dogs, but do you love them so much more than your children that you would deny your kids this vacation.
As someone else suggested, find a boarding place where you are going, that way they will be close by and they will be with you during travel time.
I'm not saying it will be easy, but the dogs will be fine and they will forgive you. Your children will remember this forever.
