Necessity is the mother of invention I am having a terrible time keeping diapers/panties on my little four-pound rescue Chi, Kozanna. She needs pee-pee and poo-poo protection. I spent $30 on two pair of panties that won't stay on her at all. I have preemie huggie diapers that fit, but slide right off. I have two harnesses for her and tried securing ribbon to the harness and then attaching the ribbon to the diaper, but she could get out of them and the harnesses have buckles that are uncomfortable. So, I had to get creative. I used 1/2-inch-wide ribbon and tied two pieces together with a knot in the middle so that there are four loose ends. I put the knot under her chest and tied two ends around her neck, not too tight. Then I crossed the other two ends under her chest and brought them from under her up behind her front legs, crossed them again over her back, and secured the two ends to the diaper with safety pins. I tried velcro and it came loose quickly, so went with safety pins. I would like to find some kind of clip that would hold on the diaper, but alligator clips slide right off. This configuration puts any pressure from the ribbon down on her chest, not up around her neck. And it fits! She can move around at will and it's comfortable, no buckles under her. I will experiment with material other than ribbon, but this works and has solved the potty problem for now. I have some other ideas about something light that would fit around her chest and attach to the diaper. I wanted Kozanna to be able to run around in the house with my other dogs rather than staying in her crate or in the kitchen all the time. Kozanna is settling in and wants to join in when I pet my other two dogs or play with them. She watches everything and I hope she will see how nice it is to be petted and held. She likes to lay on my lap and snuggles down and naps. She's a sweetie. |
