Were your actual shipping charges 50 bucks? Meaning he is responsible for the cost of the return shipping and has spent whatever to return it. Someone trying to pull "a fast one" is not going to spend their own money....certainly not for the amount of money you're talking here.
I just wouldn't give him any type of refund without some type of proof. Because of that...I'd make him send me the camera back. I wouldn't even explain WHY I'd elected to have him ship it back. It's standard policy...want a refund...send the item back.
