Time is of the essence here (even though if the dog got placed...the rescue would have that information on file) I'd contact the police immediately. If they were unable to help. I'd be in a lawyer's office pronto. A mere telephone call from an attorney to the rescue group would probably suffice. Sometimes nothing gets a faster response than just the threat of legal action.
