I don't know why they refused. I had a little carry on bag that had Teddi's nutra-cal, her dog food, some other meds and I just had to tell them I had it and they looked through it and gave it back...we didn't have a problem at all. I would never have put it in my luggage for the very reason you said...what if they lost it. I don't know why they would have made you check it??
