Call the people that have the puppy, and say that you can't come get the puppy this weekend as you just found out your sister has cancer and you need to be with family.. And ask to make arrangement to come get him at the time your check should be in.. Or look for another way to try to make some quick money by selling something you own that you don't need, or don't use..
